Jallikattu

Jallikattu is an event that takes place in the state of Tamilnadu as a part of the pongal celebrations on Mattu pongal day.Bull breeds like pulikulam are released into a crowd of people, and multiple participants attempt to grab the large hump on the bull's back with both arms and hang on to it while the bull attempts to escape. Participants hold the hump for as long as possible, attempting to bring the bull to a stop. In some cases, participants must ride long enough to remove flags on the bull's horns.

Animal rights organisations and activists have called for the ban of the sport but as per the new ordinance was made in 2017 to continue the sport. In January 2017, protests at Marina beach in Chennai were organised to revoke the ban on jallikattu. The protesters mainly consisted of the youth who wore black coloured dresses to show their opposition. After several days of protest, the Government of Tamilnadu passed a bill to amend the PCA act.
