Famous dance forms of Tamilnadu
BHARATANATYAM:
Bharatanatyam is a major type of indian classical dance that originated in tamilnadu. It is performed in temples. The facial expressions given by the performer gives life to the art.
BOMMALATTAM OR PUPPET SHOW:
Puppet shows are held in villages during festivals. The puppeteers stand behind the screen and puppets are held in front. They will enact puranas ,epics and folklore.
KARAGATTAM :
Karagattam is a tamil folk dance involving the balancing of clay or metal pots on dancer's head. This dance is associated with amman worship.
KUMMI:
It is a ancient form of village dance. It is originated when there is no musical instruments. The women stand in a circle and dance clapping their hands. This dance is performed during festivals like pongal etc.
THERU KOOTHU:
It is the most popular entertainment form in rural tamilnadu. Make up and costumes are given more importance. The performance consist of story telling,dialogue reading,singing,dancing. The play starts late in the evening and goes on until late night.
