DASARA FESTIVAL
● Mysore is one of the most famous tourist spot in India. A tourist has not seen complete India without a visit to mysore.
● Mysore's 10 day DASARA festival is world famous and thousands of tourist around the world come to witness the beautiful celebration.
● Dasara is the festival which signifies the conquest of good over evil,as this was the day when lord rama defeated the evil demon RAVANA in the battle to bring sita back home.
● Dasara comes from Sanskrit word dasa+hara ,which literally means the defeat of the sun. It has been said that the sun would not have risen if ravana had not beeb defeated by rama.
● Dasara is also known by the name of VIJAYADHASMI,which means the victory of the 10th day. It signifies the victory of goddess Durga over the demon called MAHISHASURA,who was killed by the goddess on the tenth day of lunar calendar.
● It is said that the first grand celebration of dasara took place at some time in 17th century.
● The festival is celebrated not only in India but also in neighbouring countries like Bangaladesh and Nepal.It is also marked as national holiday in Malaysia.
● Another interesting and unknown fact about dasara is that it marks the change of season,as the hot summer comes to end,making way for cool and pleasent winter season. It also marks the crops of kharif and the new beginning to plant rabi crop after diwali.
